Tell your British Car buddies, tell your local shop, tell yourself…”I gotta drive down to this cool cruise in!” Just shine your car and get on down there that Saturday! Give your car a good workout, enjoy others saying to you as they walk by at the show…”hey man, cool car!” You can leave anytime you want (and) unlike many car shows, you’re not trapped the whole time if you want to take off! The church parking lot is located in a very nice country setting, tons of trees, restrooms are close and there’ll be goodie bags full of free stuff and snacks too! Pray for good weather and we’ll see you there!

In order to not lose too much money on the event our choice this year was to raise the admission price for the event or to allow more people to register.  After much debate, Club Lotus Northwest has chosen neither of these paths and decided to cancel the event.   This was a difficult decision for the club and we apologize for canceling at this late date.

We plan to hold our Track-day in the fall.  Please watch this space for an announcement.

- Sat. morning breakfast/drivers meeting at the host hotel.
- The drive itself on great Lotus roads including a group photo and a state park.
- Lunch
- More great Lotus roads.
- Sat. evening wine tasting/hors d’ oeuvres at a local winery.
- Sun. afternoon drive to Portland Or..

After Sykart we will caravan to Dinner/Beverages at John Barleycorns (McMenamins). YOUR Club will be picking up the tab for the evening. How about that for a return on your membership dues!!! This joint event will be a country drive in eastern Washington on Sat. Apr. 30th 2011. The plan is to make this an “overnighter” as we will leave Portland late Fri. morning Apr. 29th 2011. An option would be to also stay Sat. night.

Mar. 1st 2011 starting at 6:30pm.

The movie from Classic Team Lotus will be: LOTUS GOES TURBO

This excellent archive film charts the move to turbo power by the JPS Lotus Formula One team. Starting from the announcement in 1982, exceptional behind-the-scenes footage takes you through the full development of the chassis which would carry Renault’s hugely powerful turbo engine in the 1983 season. With unprecedented access to the Lotus headquarters in Norfolk, you follow the process from design and model building to racetrack as Elio de Angelis and Nigel Mansell give the new car its first test. The period also saw the tragic loss of the legendary Colin Chapman, and the film shows how his team overcame his death and continued developing the car which would create a new era in Team Lotus history. The movie also includes, Anatomie d’Un Depart, an extraordinary short film showing the build up to a Grand Prix start, including rare footage of drivers like Ayrton Senna and many others preparing to race.

There will also be a second movie produced by Ford and provided by Jim McVein which includes Jim Clark driving a Lotus Cortina and an early 60′s Sebring race.

Pizza will be provided by Lotus Of Portland (THANKS STEVE !!!). You need to bring your own beverages (adult are OK). Also if you have a folding chair, bring that along as seating can be limited.

This should be a great warm up to the 2011 F1 season that starts in March, featuring four Lotus cars with Renault engines.

Our next event is the CLNW / Lotus Of Portland – Movie and Pizza Night on Tuesday Nov. 16th 2010, starting at 6:30pm and going until about 8:45pm. It will be held at Lotus of Portand on Canyon Road.  Pizza will be provided by Lotus Of Portland. You will need to bring your own beverages, adult beverages are OK. If you have a folding chair you can bring that, but it is not required.

Steve from Lotus Of Portland will have a new 2011 Lotus Elise and a new 2010.  We’ll be able to note the updates on the 2011 and compare it to the previous model.  He also might be able to fill us in on the latest news from Lotus (bring extra beverages with which to ply him!).

The movie will be The Millionaire: Colin Chapman (Collector’s Edition).  This is a fascinating documentary that gives a rare insight of Colin Chapman and Team Lotus in 1968, the year when Chapman and team were struggling to cope with the loss of Jim Clark at Hockenheim and Mike Spence at Indianapolis.  Graham Hill stepped into the breach, fulfilled the role of lead driver at this most difficult time, and went on to win the Championship.  This was the third championship for Team Lotus. Filmed in an era when the term ‘millionaire’ really meant something, renowned producer John Gau captured much of Colin Chapman’s energy and business approach around the time that Lotus Cars became a publicly owned company. This Collector’s Edition, the second in the Classic Team Lotus series, includes additional chapters featuring reminiscences of Team Lotus stalwarts Jim Endruweit, Bob Dance and Bob Sparshott along with a detailed look at 49B/R10 with Clive Chapman.

Finally, as an added bonus to the evening, we will find out the answer to THE QUESTION. Were did Colin Chapman get the name for his company? Should be a great event. See you there!!!
